There are over 250 bus routes serving Budapest, some also connecting the city centre with the suburban zones and several metro and train stations. The best way to read the buses is to look for whether it has either a black or red number. Red numbered buses (usually showing an ‘E’ symbol after the number) are an express which will have fewer stops. Buses with ‘A’ symbols after their number indicate a route that is shorter than its regular corresponding bus. Night buses are numbered with three digits, the first always beginning with 9; they run every 10 to 60 minutes depending on the route.
