Tower-4-bUpon its completion in 1994, the Oriental Pearl Tower was the tallest building in China and remained so until it was surpassed by the Shanghai World Financial Center in 2007. The tower has eleven spheres and multiple observation decks. Some claim that the design of the building is connected to a well-known Chinese poem.

It serves as a television and radio station and was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Russian revolution. The tower also served as a motivating factor in the creation of other large towers in former Soviet Union countries.

Tower-2-bWhen completed in 1976, the CN Tower was the largest freestanding structure in the world and was not surpassed until 2007 by the then unfinished Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It remains the tallest structure in the Western hemisphere. It serves as a communications tower and has an observatory to view Toronto’s skyline. It has become a symbol of Canada.
