The V&A and Art Jameel present ‘Jameel Prize: Poetry to Politics’, opening June 7, 2023 and on display through January 7, 2024; this group exhibition features works by the award’s eight finalists: Golnar Adili (Iran), Hadeyeh Badri (UAE), Kallol Datta (India), Farah Fayyad (Lebanon), Sofia Karim (UK), Jana Traboulsi (Lebanon), and Bushra Waqas Khan (Pakistan). Saudi artist Ajlan Gharem was announced as the winner in September 2021, chosen by an esteemed, independent jury for his architectural installation Paradise Has Many Gates (2015).
‘Jameel Prize: Poetry to Politics’ debuted at theV&A, London, in 2021, then toured to Centro Cultural La Moneda in Santiago, Chile, and El Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes Franklin Rawson, Argentina, before arriving “home” at the Jameel in June 2023.
'Jameel Prize: Poetry to Politics' is curated by the V&A’s Jameel Curator of Contemporary Art from the Middle East, Rachel Dedman and Senior Curator of the Middle Eastern Collection, Tim Stanley. The opening at the Jameel in Dubai includes a public talk with the curator and finalists Golnar Adili, Hadeyeh Badri and Bushra Waqas Khan on June 7 at 6pm.
