‘Airport City’ projects were launched in major airports in the Kingdom by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) which is increasingly moving towards private sector partnerships. GACA President Abdullah Rehaimi spoke about the projects at the Kingdom Aviation Financiers Symposium organized by GACA at the Jeddah Hilton on Monday. The symposium was organized in conjunction with Boeing.
Rehaimi said “Such developments are both economically prudent and good for the growth of air traffic to facilitate the development of commercial, industrial, and in quieter areas, residential and tourism related activities.” He said airfields have generous land reserves that will meet air traffic increases for many decades. He said the process of developing the Aiport cities is under way and that airports are important for supporting the new economic cities in terms of air transport.
