General Authority of Civil Aviation said Tuesday that Crown Prince Sultan signed an SR498 million agreement to modernize the firefighting equipment at the Kingdom’s 278 airports. Prince Sultan is deputy prime minister of defense and aviation. He said “It’s an important step toward achieving the objectives of the General Authority of Civil Aviation.” He said the upgrade will help improve the efficiency and performance of the airports firefighting systems.
Austria’s Rosenbauer Group won the five year contract to modernize Jeddah’s Airports. The Rosenbauer Group is a world leader in producing special vehicles for airport and industry, and is active in 100 countries. The company will supply 28 tank fire units, 60 aluminum technology rescue and firefighting vehicles, 48 mini-pumpers and command vehicles, six hydraulic aerial apparatus, and 16 rescue ambulances. Firefighting units will include 62 Panther air crash tenders.
