CEO of Dubai Airports said expanding military no fly zones and better air traffic control are necessary in order to maximize potential passenger growth at Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports. Paul Griffiths talked about the need for co-operation the need cooperation at the two airports at the Airport Show 2009 conference. Also in attendance were Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports Company Rudy Vercelli, and other airport officials. All underscored the importance of cooperation between the two airports and to deal with the ongoing air transport expansion in the region.
Industry representatives said more flight routes are needed and can be provided by commercial airline governing bodies and military cooperating across airspace. Vice President of Flight Operation Support, Emirates said almost fifty percent of UAE airspace is reserved for use by the military and this creates difficulties for civilian air travel.
