A senior aviation official said on Wednesday that when all three phases of the new Doha International Airport is complete, about 50,000 jobs will be created. The $14 billion airport’s annual passenger handling capacity will reach 50 million. Abdul Aziz Al Nuaimi, chairman of the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCA) said “Studies conducted by us reveal that when all three phases of the NDIA are ready, 50,000 jobs will be created.”
Al Nuaimi said the first and second phase of NDIA will open by the end of the 2011, giving the airport an initial passenger capacity of 25 million. NDIA, which is one of the first airports designed for the new Airbus A380, will be surrounded by five artificial islands, and have up to 175 check-in counters. Qatar is competing with Dubai and Abu Dhabi to become a transit hub for the Gulf.
