April 21- Dubai airport will waive up to Dh1 million in revenues earned from the aircraft parking fees for the first five days of volcanic eruption flight cancellations, said the Dubai International Airport on Tuesday. Parking is free for the first three hours of landing, after which Dh300 is charged for the first charging hour and then Dh550 per each additional hour. “We will be granting airlines exemption from parking charges for grounded aircraft due to air traffic control restrictions resulting from the Icelandic volcanic eruption,” said a spokesperson of Dubai airport.
At the moment, there are 13 stranded airplanes at the airport, following the cancellation of 305 flights since last Thursday. “We have adequate parking spaces/contingencies in place to handle planes. We continue to monitor the situation closely and adjust our plans as required,” said the spokesperson.
