May 11- The power supply to a terminal of King Abdul Aziz International Airport remained suspended for one-and-a-half-hour, thus leading to delays in six international and two domestic flights on Sunday morning.
Security staff prevented passengers from entering departure and arrival halls as inspection procedures were halted along with passport control and customs, causing a considerable backlog of passengers. All airport staff was also put on alert.
“We stopped passengers entering due to the risks posed by a return to manual operations and the ease with which contraband materials could pass without inspection and reach the aircraft,” the sources said. “This led to a backlog in passengers at departure and arrival halls, and prevented monitoring persons boarding or arriving on international flights.”
The outage occurred at 10am and delayed flights to London, Damascus, Amman, Doha, Kuwait and Casablanca, and flights to Madina and Riyadh.
