Birmingham Airports 70th anniversary celebrations featured an Emirates’ Airbus A380 as its star attraction, highlighting dramatically the great progress air travel has made over the decades. Seventy years ago, Birmingham Airport’s first passengers took off in an 8 seat de Havilland Dragon Rapide aircraft. Seventy years later the Emirates Airbus A380 landed at the airport and many residents across the city were in awe of the largest passenger jet craft ever built. This was the first ever flight by a big jumbo jet to a UK regional airport.
The Emirates A380 flight to Birmingham was a one off special service giving West Midland residents the chance to experience luxurious onboard amenities. These include flat beds in business class, private suites and shower spas in First Class, and bigger seats and wider aisles in Economy Class. The aircraft features the award winning ice entertainment system offering more than 1,000 channels of on demand entertainment.
