Thai Airways returned to the UAE capital after a six year absence. The airline announced yesterday flight service between Bangkok and Abu Dhabi International Airport will begin 26 October 2009. Thai Airways will operate the new service four times a week on the wide bodied Airbus A330-300 with 239 economy class and 41 business class seats. The Abu Dhabi sales manager for Thai Airways said they will also fly the bigger Airbus A340-600 on the route.
The new service to Abu Dhabi highlights the capital’s enviable position in an industry that projects US$9 billion in losses (Dh33.03bn) for carriers around the world as the global economic downturn forces customers to reduce their travel expenses. Other Asian carriers are also launching services to Abu Dhabi and Etihad Airways last month announced they carried a record number of passengers last month.
