Oman Air has announced its
plans to offer OnAir’s in-flight passenger communications services, which
include internet access, mobile phone and BlackBerry usage.
From 2009, passengers will be able to use their equipment to send and receive
text messages, emails including attachments, and to make and receive phone
calls during flights. In addition, they will be able to use their laptops and
the in-flight entertainment screen to access the internet, e-mail and instant
messaging.
The services will be fitted on the seven new Airbus A330 aircraft to be
delivered to Oman Air in 2009.
The airline also revealed that
cabin crew will be able to turn off the system or switch to email and text
message only .
