Australian Federal Police (AFP) confirmed on Monday that a suspicious bag on an Emirates Airline flight from Dubai was the cause of an alert at the Perth domestic airport in Australia. An AFP spokesman said a suspect bag was identified within checked luggage at the Quantas terminal. The spokesman said “It wasn’t a complete evacuation but some areas did have to be cordoned off when the bag was first located,” The bag had arrived in Perth on an Emirates Airline flight from Dubai and would have been forwarded on a domestic flight to Sydney.
There were minor disruptions for passengers, as Australian police, fire, and emergency services arrived, removed the bag, and analyzed four bottles found within the bag. Five flights were delayed and some passengers complained they had to wait several hours for the luggage conveyor belts to restart. Testing of the liquid in the bottle showed that the contents were not explosive.
