British Airways (BA) cancelled its flights from London to Bahrain and Dubai because of a strike action by its cabin crew. The airline said in a statement “The daily flight on the London-Bahrain Doha route has been cancelled on March 22, 23, and 24.” BA confirmed it cancelled one of three daily flights scheduled to fly between London and Dubai on March 22, 23 and 24. The flight schedules for Jeddah, Riyadh, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, and Muscat were not affected.
Phase two of the strike action by BA’s cabin crew will resume next weekend, from March 27 to March 30. The cabin crew union warned that if the pay dispute was not resolved there would be further strike action. The strike was initiated because BA management proposed changes to pay and working conditions in order to cut more than $90m of the airline’s expenditures. The changes included a pay freeze in 2010, cutting the number of cabin crew on long haul flights from 15 to 14 and switching 3,000 staff to part time work.
