May 12 – Budget carrier Flydubai announced on Tuesday that it will start its first route to India from June, a good 10 months after the flights to the country were first scheduled to operate.
Flights to Lucknow will start from June 2 and Flydubai is looking to operate more routes to India.
Flights to Lucknow, Coimbatore and Chandigarh were due to begin last July but were postponed owing to operational issues. Lucknow will be the seventh new route for Flydubai in a month and will bring the airline’s network to a total of 20 destinations.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said: “India represents an important market for flydubai and we are delighted that the cooperation between flydubai and the Indian authorities has resulted in the opportunity for Dubai’s first low cost airline to bring our simple, uncomplicated, quality low fare service to Lucknow. “
Lucknow is the second largest city in north, east and central India after Delhi. It is among the top 10 fastest growing cities in the country with interests in manufacturing, commerce and retail.
