May 27 – Dubai’s first low cost carrier flydubai announced it will launch flight service to Colombo, Sri Lanka further expanding its fast growing network. Flydubai began operations nearly one year ago, in June 2010. Ticket prices to Flydubai’s 21st destination start at Dh 450 and will begin on Wednesday, June 23rd. Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said the new service to Sri Lanka should be very popular because it complements existing services on the route and there are 300,000 Sri Lankan expats living in the UAE as well as UAE tourists looking for an affordable getaway in the tropics.
Al Ghaith said “We started 2010 with a determination to add new and exciting destinations to our route network. With our recent announcements of destinations as far apart as Istanbul, Lucknow, and Karachi, we have delivered on our promise to establish ourselves as affordable, accessible airline with a professional service and a network to be proud of by the anniversary of our first flight.”
