Doha, QATAR – Qatar Masters’ champion golfer Thomas Bjorn has lent his winning hand to Qatar Duty Free, helping to give away a Rolls Royce Ghost in the latest edition of the airport retailer’s popular car draw.
Indian national Mr Biji Varghese, a resident in Doha, was announced as the lucky winner of the brand new car following the draw held at Doha International Airport’s Premium Terminal, where Bjorn was in transit.
Last month, Denmark’s Bjorn won Qatar’s premium golf tournament and took away €300,000 in prize money. Qatar Airways flights to Denmark’s capital city Copenhagen will move to daily from 27 March.
Qatar Duty Free was “Official Retail Partner” of the Qatar Masters and once again hosted one of the most popular exhibition areas at the Doha Golf Club. Samsung and Canon provided Qatar Duty Free with exclusive offers for spectators at the tournament.
Qatar Duty Free Senior Vice President Keith Hunter said that in addition to its ongoing car draws, the retailer was set to continue its association with the country’s premier golf tournament.
“We were delighted with the response from the gallery at this year’s Qatar Masters. Qatar Duty Free presented exclusive bundle offers on Samsung and Canon products which were very attractive packages for visitors across all four days of the tournament,” said Hunter.
“Qatar Duty Free was also lucky to have this year’s tournament champion Thomas Bjorn on hand to select the latest winner of our luxury car draw which was a real bonus,” he added.
Winner of the 2009 Qatar Masters Alvaro Quiros was at the Premium Terminal two years ago to draw another Qatar Duty Free winner – this time for a BMW 7 Series. Quiros was also runner up at both the 2010 and 2011 Qatar Masters tournaments and this year won the Dubai Desert Classic.
Last year, Qatar Duty Free was awarded the top prize at the 2010 Duty Free News International (DFNI) Awards for Travel Retail Excellence, winning the title Travel Retailer of the Year 2010. Celebrating 10 years of operations, Qatar Duty Free Company continues its impressive growth, having recently expanded its operations at Doha International Airport and more than doubling the shopping space at Qatar Airways’ exclusive Premium Terminal for the airline’s First and Business Class passengers.
