Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, said Sharjah will keep working on establishing tourism projects and developments in order to attract more tourists and investors, despite the ongoing financial crisis. He said the first of the new tourism oriented projects will be announced in the first quarter of 2010.
Sharjah’s participation in this year’s World Travel Market in London received much attention from the media, exhibition visitors and tourism and travel experts from around the world. British media focused on the Sharjah stand, highlighting the emirate’s tourism attractions and distinct culture and heritage. Al Qasimi said the tourism sector is one of Sharjah’s busiest sectors. Its moderate climate, beautiful natural environment, and historical attractions continue to draw tourists and investors. Hotel occupancy during Q3 2009 was at 75 percent, about the same as last year.
