Saudi Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah said talks regarding purchase of major stakes in Liverpool by his F6 company are nearly complete, with club co-owner George Gillett visiting Riyadh. Gillette is visiting Riyadh mainly to talk about a project that will create Liverpool soccer academies around the region. He is one of two US owners of the English football team, which is heavily indebted.
Mr. Gillette and club co-owner Tom Hicks refinanced some of its large debt early this summer, and they have since been looking for new investment in Liverpool. Both parties have said in recent week that possible investment by Prince Faisal has been on the agenda. Prince Faisal said “The purpose of the visit of the owner of Liverpool Football Club to Saudi Arabia is to understand the sports industry and to learn about the facilities and the potential of the main clubs in order to set up the Liverpool Academy in Saudi Arabia.”
