Infrastructure work on Yas Island is nearly complete and will be ready for the inaugural 2009 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix motor race on 1 November 2009. Yas Island is located about 30 minutes from the Abu Dhabi mainland and will host many attractions including world class racing circuits, signature hotels, theme parks, marinas, and golf courses.
Aldar Properties is the developer of the multibillion dollar project on the island, expected to transform it into a major international tourism destination. Aldar Properties director of planning and infrastructure said “We are now at the testing and commissioning phase of the various infrastructure” including roads, bridges, footpaths and electricity supply. Scores of hotels, theme parks, and a super regional mall are housed on Yas Island, which is only 10 minutes away from Abu Dhabi International Airport. The 32km island offers convenient transport links.
