InterContinental Hotels and Resorts have expanded their partnership with National Geographic Society (NGS) to include global geotourism initiatives. This will bring more awareness and understanding of the environmental and cultural responsibilities of InterContinental associates and guests around the world. InterContinental will also set up a business advisory board consisting of senior executives and hotel general managers from both organizations.
National Geographic defines geotourism as “tourism that sustains or enhances the geographic character of a place” including environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage, and the well being of its residents. Intercontinental has adopted five principles to guide the partnership. The principals are inspired by National Geographic’s Geotourism Code of Good Practice.
