The Oman News Agency reported on Tuesday that UAE and Oman officials met to discuss ways to facilitate cross border travel between the two countries. Both sides considered a number of initiatives aimed at easing border crossings for tourists and expatriate residents. Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior were among those leading the discussions.
In order to strengthen security cooperation, a proposal to facilitate database exchanges between the two countries was discussed. It was agreed to expedite the linkage of all border crossings electronically. Introduction of iris scanning procedures at land checkpoints was also discussed. While visiting Muscat, Shaikh Saif toured the Royal Oman Police iris scanning facilities at their Quram headquarters.
