According to Ghassan Al Sulaiman,
chairman of Jeddah’s City Centre Development Company, the city is soon to
become only the sixth city in the world to have a giant ferris wheel similar to
the London Eye in
the Great Wheel Corporation, at the office of Makkah Governor Prince Khaled Al
Faisal on November 8 to build the ‘Jeddah Eye’ as part of the Jeddah City
Centre project.
Construction on the project will begin in 2009. Once
completed, the wheel will be 150 metres high and is expected to attract an
estimated 500,000 visitors each year.
Various buildings, including a hotel, a museum,
shopping malls and a variety of restaurants and cafes will be built around the
Jeddah Eye. The central area will also have a park, a beach, a museum, an open
arena for festivities and a fountain.
