A new policy with regard to the
service in the UAE is likely to increase the cost passport (renewal or procuring a new one) by Dh500. According to a statement released by the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi, applications for full validity passports for British nationals will no longer be processed in the UAE (Dubai and Abu Dhabi consular services). From August 1 this year, all passport applications from the UAE will be processed in the Passport Processing Centre, Dusseldorf, Germany. These changes will be implemented throughout the Gulf region.
The cost of a British passport is currently Dh745 (£124.50), while those below 16 pay Dh475 (£79.50, five-year validity). However, with the new centre located in Germany, British nationals also have to pay for “the cost of sending your application to the Passport Processing Centre” and “for the secure return of your passport and documents.” These include passport photographs, birth certificates and marriage certificates (depending on when and where you were born).
