April 6- Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector will greatly benefit from ‘Sex and the City 2’ even though not a single scene from the movie has been filmed in the UAE capital. The sequel sees Carrie Bradshaw and her friends leave their hometown, New York, to visit Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi and Dubai authorities banned producers from filming the two cities since the original show’s content was thought to be inappropriate for the region’s conservative culture.
However, scenes from the movie such as women riding camels in a desert and in local markets (the filming was done in Morocco) will promote tourism in Abu Dhabi. “Although the audience knows it is filmed somewhere else, it still has a positive impact on the destination where the movie is set,” Dr Ian Michael, a professor of marketing at Zayed University in Dubai told the paper.
The film is slated to be released next month.
