April 27- The developers of the Legoland theme park in Dubai announced on Monday that the project will go ahead and will be complete despite the delays which are a result of the economic slowdown in the region. The project is a partnership between Merlin Entertainments (UK) and Dubailand developers Tatweer. The park was initially said to be open by 2011.
“Given the current situation in the region work on the project has been delayed, but both Merlin and our local partners remain entirely committed to building a Legoland Park in Dubai,” a Merlin spokesman said on Monday.
The partnership was announced in May 2008 and the AED912 million project would have spanned over three million square feet within Dubailand. The park would have been the first of its kind outside of North America and Europe.
