May 2- Omar Ahmed Al Bitar, UAE ambassador to China, opened the UAE pavilion at Expo Shanghai 2010 yesterday. Attending the opening ceremony were Deputy Commissioner General Abdulla Aidaroos, Deputy Director General of MNC and Commissioner General of the UAE pavilion Salim Saeed Al Ameri, and a number of other senior officials. The UAE pavilion, which took several years to plan and development, occupies 6,000 square meters at the heart of the Expo site in the eastern section, south of the river and within easy reach of the Chinese pavilion on the other side of the main thoroughfare.
The UAE pavilion was designed by the world famous architectural team, Foster + Partners and will showcase the UAE’s prosperity, culture, harmony, and innovativeness to the world. The exhibition is being held in a glittering building whose design gives the creative appearance of sand dunes. Ambassador Al Bitar said “This is a great day for China and a great day for the UAE. The UAE is proud to bring a small part of our country to China in the shape of these elegant sand dunes.
