May 11 – Eyewear sales in Dubai are on the rise owing to the number of tourists in the city. In fact, figures suggest that tourists contribute to as much as 60 per cent of the sales, said Andrea Guerra, Director and CEO of Luxottica, a global designer, manufacturer and distributor of fashion, luxury and sports eyewear. “People come to Dubai happy to spend money. They enjoy the shopping experience here, which is quite unique in the world,” Guerra said on Tuesday.
“This is a place where people love eyewear, be it sunglasses or prescription frames. Dubai is a sunny place, therefore sunglasses are a basic need. There is also a high level of tourism and sunglasses have always been a favourite item. With these things combined, there is a great opportunity for success in the country,” he added.
Similarly, other high-end brands such as Chanel, Bvlgari, Prada, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana and Salvatore Ferragamo have maintained a strong presence in the region, according to Guerra.
