May 25 – Travel agencies in Kuwait have said that this year’s bookings for summer travel will be much better than those of the last two years. In fact, the current turnout, they said, indicates that there is positive growth in the travel industry.
Travel agents stated the financial crisis and the swine flu scare as the cause for last year’s travel season. Also, online bookings affected the travel agency business, said Wafaa El-Boudery, Branch Manager, Musaad El-Saleh Travel Company. “You go to the system and find that all the seats are taken and prices are up, but the number of clients does not match all those bookings,” she said.
El-Boudery said that this year most Kuwaitis are thinking about travelling to the Far East. “Even Thailand, which is one of the most popular destinations for the summer time in Kuwait, is not off the list. Even though the country is politically unstable, people are used to going to Thailand. They are waiting to see what will happen and they haven’t cancelled their reservations yet,” she explained.
