June 21 – Investors in Jordan on Saturday launched a tourism project in the Dead Sea that is focused around Islamic architecture and values. The project, with an estimated cost of $100 million, is called Al Buhayra and will have the largest lagoon in the region.
The resort will have 1,000 suites and will be developed by Sama Jordan for Investment, Real Estate and Tourism Development and Jordan Agriculture Engineers Association (JAEA). Rizq Bani Hani, Chief Executive Officer of Sama Jordan, at a press conference, said that the company has entered in a partnership with JAEA to construct 218,000 square metres in the Dead Sea Development Area in order to set up family-friendly tourism services.
“We will provide private swimming pools for ladies in addition to adopting a conservative policy inside the resort that goes in line with our society’s values and principles,” he added. Restaurants and cafes will also be an integral feature of the project.
Meanwhile, construction in the first phase will feature 200 suites and will begin next month while the project will be up and running by 2012.
