On April 8 the President and CEO of The Walt Disney Company Bob Iger and Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Tom Staggs were joined by Shanghai Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng and Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng to officially break ground on the Shanghai Disney Resort project which is expected to be completed in five years.
Mickey Mouse dressed in Chinese costume and a female soloist singing in Mandarin marked the inaugural of the ceremony. The Shanghai Disney Resort is expected to be authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese. It will be the second Disney theme park in China – the other one is in Hong Kong.
