The last ten days of Ramadan have started and hundreds of thousands of people from around the world have reached Islam’s two holiest cities – Makkah and Madinah – to be able to join the evening prayers and benefit from the “Night of Power.”
The first verses of the Holy Quran were revealed during Ramadan and one of the last ten nights of Ramadan is supposed to be the Night of Power which the Quran says is better than one thousand months. While Muslims can spend the night in prayers at home or in any mosque, the special night prayers “Qiam ul Lail” performed in the Haram in Makkah and Masjide Nabvi in Madinah attract a large number of worshipers from all over the world.
The crowds in Makkah have now become overwheming and King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has just announced an 80 billion Riyals expansion project to increase the capacity of the Haram to 2.5 million people.
