The second highest mountain in the world is K2 which is 8,611 meters high. It is also the most dangerous to climb and is located in northern Pakistan which is home to 5 of the world’s top 15 mountains. A short distance from K2 is Nanga Parbat which stands at 8,165 meters.
For those who wish to risk their lives and limbs trekking and mountain climbing, for those who get their adrenaline boosts at high altitudes, and for those who religiously follow the lyrics of Marvin Gaye – “ain’t no mountain high enough” – for them, there is salvation. A mountain trekking organization Concordia Expeditions which is based in Colorado, USA, is offering several trekking expeditions to K2 and surrounding mountains and base camps. Due to severe weather conditions, the trekking expedition is only offered between July and August 2012. Those who wish to go on the expedition will be comforted by knowing that the area they will visit contains some of the longest and largest glacier systems outside of the polar regions.
