Dubai is set to take centre stage later this month as it seeks to break the world record for the most spectacular fireworks display ever seen on New Year’s Eve.
Hosted by Atlantis, The Palm, the event will welcome internationally acclaimed pyrotechnic firms to the emirate for a spectacular show.
The hotel guarantees guests “an unforgettable night”, with Atlantis, The Palm, hosting a royal gala dinner under the stars.
World-class entertainment will also be on offer during the build up to midnight.
The popular Sandance music festival, featuring international DJs Axwell, Pete Tong and Paul Oakenfold, as well as singer Emeli Sande, will run in parallel to the event.
The main event will offer guests a front-row seats to watch the huge display, the cost of which will surpass the estimated Dh11 million Atlantis spent on fireworks for its launch in 2008.
According to the Guinness World Records, the largest firework display in terms of area took place in Kuwait City during celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the constitution on November 10th last year.
It consisted of 77,282 pyrotechnics, stretched along five kilometres of seafront and lasted for 64 minutes.
Atlantis, The Palm is thought to be attempting to break all three records.
The show will cap a successful year for the emirate of Dubai, which recently won the right to host Expo 2020.
Dubai Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing also took home the title of World’s Leading Destination at the World Travel Awards Grand Final earlier this year cementing its return to the top table of international tourism.
