In Bieie, Hokkaido, Japan, there’s a blue pond that changes colors depending on the weather.
Especially adored by photographer Kent Shiraishi, who frequently photographs the pond, the ‘Blue Pond’ is picturesque, and gives off breathtaking shades of blue and green in real life as well as in captured stills.

According to Shiraishi, the changing color of the water is actually due to a high presence of aluminum hydroxide—which reflects blue light, just like earth’s atmosphere.
The pond was actually man made to prevent Biei from getting damaged, should and when the nearby active volcano Mount Tokachidake erupt.
