Laurent Aigon, from Lacanau, France always wanted to be a pilot. When he was a little boy he would see planes landing and taking off because he lived in Beutre, just 200 meters from the Merignac Airport. His childhood dream to become a pilot became a reality at the early age of 12 when he got his first Flight Simulator computer game. He never went on to become a pilot but what he did for his own son is a remarkable story of pursuing one’s passion.

He says he was too lazy to study to become a pilot. However, a few years ago he met with another aircraft enthusiast, Jean-Paul, and together they scoured the internet for parts, and piece by piece, module by module, managed to put together one of the world’s most realistic Boeing 737 cockpits. The fact that it’s crammed between a closet and a bunk-bed in a children’s bedroom is of little consequence.
Laurent has now been approached by the Institute of Aircraft Maintenance at Bordeaux-Merignac Airport to give a lecture on his achievement, and an aircraft maintenance company contacted him about using his creation for simulations.
It is never too late, you, too, can fly up in the air – after paying for an airline ticket!
