Think of the Maldives and your mind conjures up pictures of white sandy beaches, colorful fishes and scuba diving. But mountain climbing? Well, according to the Shangri-La Maldives, German mountain adventurer Florian Nagl, who has 10 years of history climbing mountains in different countries, recently visited the Shangri-La’s Resort & Spa, Maldives to climb the Maldives’ highest peak, Mount Villingili.
Mount Villingili is number 74 in his highest peak collection. It stands at a modest 5.1 metres and is located at tee number eight on Villingili’s Golf Course – the only golf course in the Maldives. It is nothing compared to Mount Everest which is 8,848 metres high and was climbed by Nagl just two months ago.
You and I can perhaps only aspire to see Mount Everest let alone climb it but if there is one mountain peak we can all surmount it surely is Mount Villingili in the Maldives.
