More than 1 million tourists have visited Oman in the first half of 2014 and 38% of them have come from the GCC. Tourist arrivals from the GCC have surged by 10.8% and the Ministry of Tourism of Oman along with Oman Air are trying to woo more travelers from the GCC.
Salim Al Mamari, Director General of tourism promotion, Oman Ministry of Tourism, said, “Because of its diverse geographical features, Oman is an all-year-round tourism destination, making it perfect for GCC tourists to take short-break vacations.”
Besides Oman Air, all regional airlines and low cost carriers fly to Muscat or Salalah and offer a great opportunity for visitors to take a short break in Oman. A trip to the Mutrah Souk in Muscat for buying trinkets or sailing on a yacht to see dolphins or just taking in the lush green landscape of Salalah are some of the diversions that a weekend in Oman can offer.
