Millennium and Copthorne Hotels and Resort will open the Grand Millennium Al Wahda Abu Dhabi hotel in the second quarter of 2010. The hotel will be one of the biggest in Abu Dhabi, with a capacity of 850 rooms and hotel apartments. The estimated cost of the hotel was Dh650 million when construction began two years ago.
General Manager Kabil Damerji said the cost was modified after the construction value changed. The hotelier’s Regional Director for Sales and Marketing said he expects “prices of hotel rooms in Abu Dhabi will fall between five and 25 percent over the next few years, depending on the reputation of each hotel,” Tarek El Sherif said competition has increased this year with the opening of ten new hotels, and seven of these are located on Yas Island.” He noted the increase in hotels came after a period of five years in which no new hotel rooms were constructed.
