Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts, the hotel giant based in Dubai, is planning to open a resort property on the Spanish island of Majorca in about a year. Jumeirah regional manager, Derek Picot, said “We have identified Europe as one of the key geographical growth areas for Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts, and we are always looking at locations that are in key resort and gateway city locations.”
Jumeirah will operate the five star, 120 room luxury hotel on Majorca under a long term lease. Mr. Picot said Majorca was chosen because it is fast becoming one of the island vacation spots in the Mediterranean. Majorca is the biggest island on Spain’s Balearic archipelago. The hotel will be situated on a 4.2 acre site and have two swimming pools, a 2,000 square meter spa and wellness center, and conference and banqueting facilities. Jumeirah considers Germany, Britain, Spain, other European countries, and the Middle East as primary source markets.
