The Galactic Suite Space Resort is on track to accept its first paying guests in 2012, despite criticisms about the investment and timeframe for the multi-billion dollar project. It will cost three million euros (Dh16.1 million) to stay for three nights at the hotel, and this price includes an eight week training course on a tropical island. During their stay at the hotel, guests will see the sun rise fifteen times a day, and travel around the world 80 times.
Xavier Claramunt, Galactic Suite Ltd’s chief executive, and a former astronaut, predicts space travel will be quite common in the future and said the project puts his company at the head of an industry in its infancy, with a big future ahead. He said “It’s very normal to think that your children, possibly within 15 years could spend a weekend in space.”
