Hoteliers in Dubai are seeing a brighter future as the summer season comes to an end. Monarch Dubai director of business development said “Hopefully for Dubai, summer is a turning point, and Marriot Middle East and Africa sales director Jeff Stracchan said “We believe there is room for optimism.” The Atlantis Resort on The Palm Island in Dubai doubled their rates last week from a promotional offer of Dh800 per room to Dh1,680 per night.
Industry executives agree that after many months of falling occupancy rates, the hospitality industry may have turned a corner. Dubai revenue per available room (RevPar) dropped 24 per cent in July compared to 40 per cent drops earlier in the year. Marriot’s Jim Strachan said forward bookings for the last quarter are looking good and room rates for November may be higher or close to the room rates for November last year.
