The United Federation of Travel Agents Associations (UFTAA) is having discussions with Abu Dhabi about moving its headquarters to the capital, according to the Abu Dhabi Travel and Tourism Council (ATTAC). UFTAA is an influential international travel organization that has been based in Monaco for the past 20 years, and is in talks with ATTAC because Abu Dhabi will be a less costly arrangement.
Both ATTAC and UFTAA said the move would help Abu Dhabi achieve its goal of developing as a tourism destination, and increase the number of hotel guests from 1.5 million last year, to 2.3 million by 2012. Chairman of ATTAC said “Our plan is to transfer the UFTAA headquarters to Abu Dhabi. By this we are going to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s tourism traffic, especially by selling Abu Dhabi as a destination.” Nasser Butti bin Omeir bin Youssef said ATTAC is about to begin discussions with the government to see what it would offer for in its bid for headquarters.
