The Fairmont Hotels and Resorts group will open the Makkah Clock Royal Tower in Makkah next year, snatching the title for the world’s tallest tower from Rotana’s newly opened 333 meter tall Rose Rayhaan. The Makkah Clock Royal Tower is expected to open in the third quarter of 2010. The hotel will have 76 storeys and be 577 meters high, and will also house the Emaar Residences.
The Fairmont hotel will be located in the holy city of Makkah next to the holiest site in Islam, the Masjid al Haram, and be the center point of the iconic Abraj Al Bait Complex. It will have 858 rooms and a 40 meter clock five times bigger than the Big Ben clock, visible from up to 17 kilometers away. The hotel group said the new hotel “will be a key destination for visitors from the United Arab Emirates and the Middle East, strengthening the popularity of Fairmont Hotels and Resorts with travelers from the region.”
