A recent online survey found that 35 percent of people will not take a holiday this year because they can’t afford to. 34.7 percent of respondents said they are ruling out luxuries like foreign travel. Only 14.2 percent said they will be able to get away for weekend breaks in and around the region, but these respondents said they will reduce expensive airfare costs by staying closer to home.
The survey found that 46.5 percent are planning to take an annual two week vacation to a long haul destination. 14.6 percent of respondents will be “taking the summer off to jet around the world, plus loads of mini-breaks in between.” The poll results come a day after the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported the Middle East region had the highest passenger growth in the world in 2009.
