May 8 – The number of hotel rooms in Sharjah is expected to grow 75 percent said Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, speaking at the Arabian Travel Market in the UAE. Al Qassimi, who is chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) said the increase in room numbers is expected based on the expected rise in hotel facilities over the next four years, and also because of on-going growth of the tourism sector in the emirate.
Al Qassimi said “SCTDA statistics show that the emirate of Sharjah is preparing for 33 new hotel facilities by 2014, with the total number of facilities in the emirate reaching 143 compared to 110 in the Emirate currently. With 7,387 hotel rooms expected to be added, the number of hotel rooms in the emirate will reach 15,141, compared to the current number of 8,727” SCTDA statistics show that over the next four years 14 hotel apartments with 2,162 rooms and 19 hotels with 4,225 rooms will be established in Sharjah.
