May 26 – Jordan’s Dead Sea Touristic and Real Estate Investment Company (DSC) in collaboration with Abu Dhabi-based Aabar Investments have launched a joint venture to set up Jordan’s first Hilton hotel alongside the Dead Sea. The hotel will cost an estimated JD67 million to build and has been named the Dead Sea Resorts (DSR). A waterfront will be developed on the Dead Sea under the patronage of Hilton worldwide.
According to Said Darwazah, Chairman of DSC, the DSR will also own, manage and expand the King Hussein Ben Talal Convention Centre at the Dead Sea. He added that Emaar Jordan will carry out the construction for the project that will begin soon and will be ready by 2013. Christopher Nassetta, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hilton Worldwide, said that Jordan remains an important market for the group, adding that the hotel will have 285 rooms and will be connected to the convention centre.
There are two properties under development in Jordan which include the 531-room hotel in Amman at Jordan Gate near the Sixth Circle and will open by the end of the year, and another hotel at Tala Bay in Aqaba with 346 rooms. The second hotel will be completed by the end of 2011.
