June 10 – The Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) is looking into building Aloft Hotel in London, slated to open just in time for the London Summer Olympics 2012. The hotel will have 252 rooms and will be part of London’s largest conference and exhibition venue ExCel situated in Docklands.
“ADNEC is committed to innovation as evidenced by our decision to introduce a new hospitality brand to the UK,” said Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, the chairman of ADNEC, which bought the ExCel London centre for Dh2.3 billion ($626 million) in 2008.
ExCel will play a significant role in the 2012 Summer Olympics as it will host seven Olympic and six Paralympic events, including boxing, wrestling, table tennis, judo and fencing.
ADNEC was in the news earlier this month for the 160-metre tall Capital Gate skyscraper in Abu Dhabi which made it in to the Guinness World Records for “World’s Furthest Leaning Manmade Tower”.
