If you want to experience the ultimate in luxury, you have to wait for three years before you can get it in Shenzen. Until then, you can be pampered at one of the 45 hotels and luxury resorts operated by the Mandarin Oriental Group in 27 countries.
The Hong Kong based hotel group has just signed an agreement to manage a luxury hotel atop a 400m tower in the premier Shum Yip’s UpperHills area close to the Futian financial district of Shenzen. The hotel will have 190 spacious rooms including 17 suites – all encompassing the exacting standards set by the Mandarin Hotels to ensure the comfort of their guests.
Shenzhen is located immediately north of Hong Kong on the eastern bank of the Pearl River. It was the country’s first special economic zone established in 1980, and has grown into the high-tech and manufacturing hub of Southern China. Shenzhen is also an important financial centre and home to one of the mainland’s busiest container ports and airports. It is also one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations and a leading centre of luxury retail. For the technically savvy Apple fans, Foxconn, the Taiwanese company that manufactures most Apple products opened its first mainland China manufacturing plant in Shenzen in 1988.
