While Munich is known the world over for its annual Oktoberfest, the Bavarian capital is also home to a vibrant cultural scene with its museums boasting impressive collections that rival those in Berlin. The highlight of this year’s cultural calendar is the re-opening of the Lenbachhaus, which after an extensive renovation will open its doors again to the public in May. Marking this occasion, Rocco Forte’s The Charles Hotel is giving art lovers the chance to discover this cultural gem with an exclusive ‘Lenbach’ Experience.
As part of the experience, guests will meet an expert from the Lenbachhaus at The Charles Hotel to take them though the many original works by Franz von Lenbach on display at the hotel, before heading to the museum for an exclusive guided tour. Once the home of the eccentric local painter, this Florentine-style historic villa has, over three years been carefully restored by British architect Norman Foster and his team. A spectacular new wing, with an entire new floor of state-of-the-art galleries has been added and provides an ideal environment for viewing the world’s largest ‘Blue Rider’ Collection, containing masterpieces by 20th century artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and Paul Bloch. In addition, the museum will also house works by von Lenbach himself, known for his portraits of among other, Peggy Guggenheim and Richard Wagner.
After taking in some the museum’s other highlights such as Olafor Eliasson’s Wirbelwerk, a spiral of polished metal and coloured glass that reaches down from the atrium’s ceiling, guests will be able to relax at The Charles Hotel’s DAVVERO restaurant with a special Lenbach-inspired menu.
The Lenbach Experience at The Charles Hotel is available all year round from 13 May 2013. Prices start from €545 per night based on two people sharing a Classic King Room on a B&B basis and include an exclusive guided tour of the Lenbachhaus and a Lenbach cocktail per person.* To book or for more information, visit Rocco Forte hotels website or +49 89 544 5550.
